School may be out for the summer, but don’t dread it, keep it simple this summer by using these 4 Summer Survival Tips.
If there is anything that I have learned from the many women who have influenced me in the past and still influence my life today is that success doesn’t come without failure. As a mom of three, let’s just say, some days are easier than others. Now that summer break is just a few weeks away, it is time to kick into summer survival mode. 🙂
If at first you don’t succeed, TRY, TRY again!
4 Summer Survival Tips
This summer our boys will be turning 13 and 11, I am not looking forward to having a teen and a Tween, ha! But this means that this will mark the 7th year of us trying this summer break/vacation thing all on our own. All this means is that once again we will be “trying” to keep all the kids entertained all on our own and trying to avoid those dreaded words: “I am bored”. Yes, that’s right, no day or sleep-away camps for our kids! In simple terms, we will have to find activities for three different age groups including a 6-year old, 11-year old, and a 13-year old.
So, will we face some summer challenges? From past experiences, of course, we will! Transitioning from school routine to summer is not easy for anyone. In my opinion summer break can be quite challenging not only for the kids but more so, for us moms. Personally, having the kids in schools gave me the time to work uninterrupted, now I will have to get my work done while keeping them entertained.
4 Summer Survival Tips
Like my mother always say, if at first you don’t succeed, TRY, TRY again! Through the years, we have tried and failed at some our summer survival implementations, however, there are a few things that have always work for our family and hopefully will work for yours as well.
Here are 4 of our tried-and-true summer survival tips:
- Keep a routine – Keeping a routine will not only make thing easier for us moms, it is also beneficial for the kids. For example, we keep a pretty laid back routine in the morning but before anyone gets to play outside or on their electronics, a book has to be read or a few pages of their summer review Math or reading workbooks.
- Easy meals – We try to prepare easy meals through the year and this is even more importantly during the summer. We personally love to come up with lunch ideas that involve quickly reheating or fixing it under 15 minutes.
- Spend time outside – Get the kids outside everyday! For some families, this part might be easier said than done. As kids get older it might get harder to get them outside, however, this is the part that gets you involved. Walk to a near park or simply take-a-walk around the neighborhood. If that doesn’t work for you, have a water balloon fight outside, all kids love that. Plus you will be making family memories.
- Take time for yourself – Summer means that you (I am talking about you, moms), will have the excuse of no time on your hands to take a break for yourself. And yes, trust me, I can relate 110%! So, in order for you to take time for yourself you have to be creative and proactive. So, the first thing you have to do is set it up for yourself. And finally just take the time, no excuses and no hesitation. Take myself for instant, I love finding a good show that I can watch after the kids are in bed, that’s my guilty pleasure. No interruptions, just time for myself!
Speaking of taking time for yourself, hey because we have to be queens in order to rule our domains! 🙂 I recently discovered Queen of the South, which is an original USA Network series about Teresa Mendoza, who is forced to run and seek refuge in America after her drug-dealing boyfriend is unexpectedly murdered in Mexico. Teresa teams up with an unlikely figure from her past to bring down the leader of the very drug trafficking ring that has her on the run. In the process, she learns the tools of the trade and strategically positions herself to become the leader of the cartel. Sounds good right? Well, if you haven’t seen it yet, you can get catch up on Season 1 on Netflix right now just before the anticipated premiere of Season 2 on June 8th 10/9c. Win-win, just in time for summer break! Hopefully, your summer is full of amazing adventures and lots and lots of smiles. Be sure to share with us your tried-and-true Summer Survival Tips!
