About the 11th Annual Taste of Pinecrest 2013 …
The 11th Annual Taste of Pinecrest will be held at the new South Dade YMCA Family Center, located at 9355 Southwest 134 Street, Miami, FL 33176 on Sunday, April 7 at 11 a.m. Successfully produced for 10 years by the Pinecrest Business Association (PBA), the Taste of Pinecrest has generated more than $250,000 in donations to Pinecrest’s local schools. This year’s event promises to be bigger and better than ever, with the first ever partnership between the PBA and the YMCA of Greater Miami.
As the first community event being hosted at the new South Dade YMCA Family Center, guests will have the opportunity to experience the new Family Center as well as spend the day with celebrity chefs, who will be hosting cooking demonstrations, presenting healthy cooking tips and food preparation techniques. Take your taste buds on a tour of what Pinecrest has to offer by sampling the local fare and enjoying South Florida’s finest food trucks.
One-hundred percent of the net proceeds from Taste of Pinecrest will be invested in the Y’s scholarship fund – none will go to overhead, staffing, or operational expenses. The $30,000 they hope to raise will enable 400 children in the community who wouldn’t otherwise be able to participate in youth sports or camp to learn teamwork, stay active and safe, make friends, and develop life-long memories at the Y.
About the YMCA …
The YMCA of Greater Miami was started in 1916 in downtown Miami. At that time, there were just a few pioneers with the dream of offering programs that would build a strong community. Today’s Y is a magnet for all kinds of people, attracting people of all faiths, races, abilities, ages and income. The Y is an agent of depolarization, bringing people together from different backgrounds, communities and cultures. The Y of today looks much different than it did 30 or 40 years ago, yet the core values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility that the Y teaches have remained constant throughout its long history. Today, the YMCA of Greater Miami provides programs – child care, sports, before and afterschool care, aquatics, day camps, teen programs, adult fitness and senior programs – in 4 family centers, 3 preschools, and over 60 elementary and middle schools, and park locations throughout Miami-Dade and Monroe Counties.
