Ah, the car line! For most parents, those words come with plenty of stress, anxiety, and frustration. If you aren’t dealing with the dreaded car line pickup and drop off, count your blessings! I have personally been dealing with the drop off car line for around ten years now and although I was relieved from pickup car line duties a few years ago, this year I am back in the saddle. Now that all of our kids are in different schools, this mom right here has to deal with the suck warp that is car line.
In an effort to eliminate and improve on this stressful time, I’ve started looking for options to make it easier on me to deal with car line in a more productive and relaxing way. If you are like me and you too have to deal with the pickup and drop off car line, here are 3 easy ways to survive the school pick-up line all year round.
3 Easy Ways to Survive the School Pick-Up Line
Time Management
Let’s begin with time management. I am not here to tell you how to manage your time because let’s be honest, every situation is different for everyone. Therefore, all I can share with you are two different ways to deal with car line and your precious time.
- Arriving early:
- If you are a parent with a flexible time schedule, you might want to arrive at your kids’ school early. Arriving early allows you to be among the first cars in car line, meaning you will be able to pick up your child and go through the car line quickly and efficiently.
- Arriving later:
- On the other hand, arriving after the bell rang, gives you the freedom of not having to wait behind seven-hundred-and-fifty cars! L.O.L, I am exaggerating here, but seriously, there is a huge advantage on arriving later. Just make sure you get to your kids’ school before the school pickup deadline. Hey, you don’t want to be the last parent picking up their children, right?
Cultivate a hobby
Have you ever wanted to pick up a hobby but never had the time to do it in? Well, why not cultivate your hobbies or pick up a new one while you wait? During your time in the car line, you can take the opportunity to do things that you haven’t been able to fit into your busy schedule, such as:
- Reading:
- With three kids at home, I barely have time to think for myself, let alone pick up a book and read it from cover to cover. If you love to read why not pick up your favorite book and enjoy reading in peace and interrupted quietly.
- Enjoy the quiet:
- I love, love playing games on my phone and I recently found a new game I am in love with. I have always enjoyed putting jigsaw puzzles together and with the Jigsaw Puzzle app, I can enjoy that hobby on the go!
- Playing this game feels like the real jigsaw puzzle experience like moving pieces around on a table, you can play up to 1024 puzzle pieces on tablets and 400 puzzle pieces on phones.
- The Jigsaw Puzzle app offers over 20,000 free colorful and vivid puzzles from nature, animals, food, artwork, patterns, crafting, and European landscapes, American summer & Enchanted gardens puzzles from famous artists.
- Plus, you can search the app for puzzles that align with your interest and adjust the time settings for even more challenging experiences.

Volunteer
This year, my kids’ school started accepting volunteers to run the car line. Thankfully, their time has helped improved car line a lot. If you have the time you should consider volunteering one hour of your time. Not only will the entire school will benefit but hey, if you are a car line volunteer, you can collect your child and skip the car line altogether. 🙂
