Today is finally the big day and why is that? Today, August 9, 2013, Disney’s Planes opens in theaters nationwide! While I was in Los Angeles back in June, I had the privilege attend a screen of the final product and today I can finally share with you my movie review. Disney’s Planes is from the world of Cars, if you are familiar with that movie you will love Planes.
Synopsis: From above the world of “Cars” comes “Disney’s Planes,” an action-packed 3D animated comedy adventure featuring Dusty (voice of Dane Cook), a plane with dreams of competing as a high-flying air racer. But Dusty’s not exactly built for racing—and he happens to be afraid of heights. So he turns to a seasoned naval aviator who helps Dusty qualify to take on the defending champ of the race circuit. Dusty’s courage is put to the ultimate test as he aims to reach heights he never dreamed possible, giving a spellbound world the inspiration to soar. “Disney’s Planes” takes off in theaters on Aug. 9, 2013.
Lets begin… meet Dusty Crophopper (voiced by Dane Cook) is a small-town crop-dusting plane who has BIG dreams of competing in a around-the-world flying race.
Dusty’s design was inspired by the Air Tractor 502, Cessna, and the Air Dromader.
Dusty is not built for racing and he also happens to be afraid of heights. Dusty knows that he is an underdog but has a dream and will put his heart and soul into accomplishing it and with the support & help of his mentor Skipper Riley (voiced by Stacy Keach) and his new & old friends he will succeed.
New & Old Friends… Dusty’s old friends: Dottie the blue forklift is both Dusty’s best friend & his mechanic (voiced by Terri Hatcher), Chug is a fuel truck (voiced by Brad Garrett), and Roper is a forklift (voiced by Sinbad) all of them together will both help and support Dusty. Dusty’s new friends: El Chupacabra is a legendary in-door Mexican racer (voiced by Carlos Alazraqui) and Dusty’s best friend, Ishani is India’s best plane racer and Dusty’s love interest (voiced by Priyanka Chopra), Rochelle is El Chupacabra’s love interest (Julia Louis-Dreyfus), & Bulldog is an older and wiser plane (John Cleese).
International Flair… Planes’ character represent several countries throughout the world. My favorite scenes from the movie take place in both India and Nepal, the scenes are peaceful and well crafted. The time that went into the research of this movie paid off during these specific scenes, as a grown up you feel as though you are transported to those specif region of the world.
Planes has a familiar flair but has many unique and original elements and the fact that Anthony Edwards and Val Kilmer lend their voices to the characters of Echo and Bravo make it even more of a relate-able movie for us that grew up in the 80s. My favorite part of Planes is it message: if you have a dream pursuit it even when others might say no.
On a side note, although my family did not come with me to the L.A screening, we did had the opportunity to attend a pre-screening of Planes here in Miami. I was so excited to be able to share this beautiful movie and its message with them. My kids enjoyed the movie and continue to act out the scenes. My husband, who is a Top Gun enthusiast, enjoyed the air craft & jet scenes the most. Take your family to see this movie, I am sure they will enjoy it!
