Planes will be flying into theaters this Friday, August 9, Can you believe it? I cannot believe time has gone by so fast, throughout the month of July I shared with you my adventures learning more about went into the making the movie Planes via my animation post, story artist post, my voice over post and just last week my chat with Director Klay Hall & Producer Traci Balthazor-Flynn post. 🙂 This week is going to be a little different than my last posts, this week I will be sharing with you my Q&A with Terri Hatcher, who voices Dottie and this coming Friday I will be sharing with you my movie review of Disney’s Planes. There is still more to come in the next few weeks about my experiences while at DisneyToon Studios and much more.

Among the unique opportunities we were given while at the DisneyToons Studios was a Q&A with Teri Hatcher, unfortunately, Teri was home sick with a terrible sinus infection therefore our Q&A took place over a conference call with her. 🙁 Terri Hatcher is best known for her two most recognizable characters she has played on TV: Susan Mayer on the ABC comedy-drama series Desperate Housewives, and Lois Lane on the ABC comedy-drama series Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman.
This time around Terri voices Dottie, Dottie is a forklift who co-owns and operates Chug and Dottie’s Fill ’n Fly service station. Dottie is also Dusty’s practical and say-it-like-it-is friend. Dottie is a well meaning friend who doesn’t want to see her best friend Dusty lose touch with reality, but no matter what Dusty decided Dottie will always be there to support and fix him along the way. Beside that, Dottie is a smart and a great mechanic.
Here are a couple of my favorite Q&A from Terri:
Terri was asked to share her favorite part of Planes? and her answer was this:
TERI : My favorite part: I guess my favorite part, it’s hard to say because, clearly, the movie is so gorgeous. It’s just so beautiful and every time I look at scenes from it, I just can’t get over the craftsmanship of how they- I was really trying to figure it out how- what is the trick. How do they create this world that just draws you in, it’s planes. They’re not people, but suddenly you kind of let all that go and you just are in this story, and it’s so beautiful and so magical.
So I love all, everything in it, but I think my favorite scene for me of my character and what just makes me laugh all the time because it made the final cut of it, and it makes me laugh remembering the journey of filming it. It was the scene where Dottie is first telling him that he can’t fly and then she just sort of does this demonstration of what’s gonna happen to him if he doesn’t fly, and he’s gonna go to the ground and smash all the kids in the orphanage.
It just, it makes me laugh and when I watch it with a group of people, everybody laughs, and so I guess that’s one of my favorites.
Moms and dads can be cool, how cool is to get play an animated character? This is what Terri had to say about it:
TERI : Yes, getting offered a Disney movie is, it’s definitely, I think, the- one of the first thoughts that comes into your brain is, you know, my child’s gonna love this or my grandchild’s gonna love this, you know, and, or even my great-grandchild after I’m long gone is gonna love this, and that is kind of the- that’s the quality that Disney offers.
I feel like Cars and Planes and, you know, those movies, they’re gonna be the same. I mean, kids fifty years from now, whatever the technology is will still be entertained with their families by those movies, and that’s pretty fun, you know? You think about what are the reasons that you’re here, you know?
And one of them is to bring joy and so this is a really great way to be, you know, a little part, I mean, Dottie is a little part of this movie, but getting to be a little part of a movie that’s gonna bring joy to a lot of families all over the world. And that’s- so when you get the call and they say, do you wanna be in this Disney movie, that’s absolutely the first thought that goes through your brain and then the answer is yes.
Thanks to Terri for taking the time to share her experiences with us. Next stop in our adventures in L.A, I will share with you my Planes movie review. ‘Till next time!
