Once upon a time, there was a little girl who loved to play with all kinds, shaped and sized dolls. Each doll had a special place in her heart and in her bedroom. Her love for dolls didn’t diminish through the years, it only grew. As a matter of fact, her love for dolls was so much that by the time it was time to get ready to celebrate her quinceañera (15th Birthday), she wanted her cake to be topped with a dolls with a flowing pink dress. Yes, I am talking about myself and the picture above is that very cake! Now that I am a mom of a little girl, who loves dolls almost as much as I did when I was a child, I wanted to find a way to incorporate some of the same things my mom did for me back then.
DIY Crochet Toilet Tissue Cover
#HolidaysConFamilia #CollectiveBias
As I mentioned before, my daughter loves her dolls, she loves them so much that they go everywhere she goes. So, this fact got me reminiscing when I was little and would go to my abuelita’s (grandmother) and tias’ (aunts) houses and seeing a crochet toilet tissue cover, which by the way, was topped with a doll sitting on the toilet bowl. Do you remember those? I remember those like it was yesterday. Since my daughter loves to decorate our bathroom with her toys, I decided to invite my mom over to make a special crochet toilet tissue cover for our guest bathroom just in time for the holiday season.
So, how do you make a crochet toilet tissue cover? Well, it is quite easy, all you need is one crochet hook, one Scott bathroom tissue roll, one fashion doll (preferably with a painted top, like the one pictured above), and 60 yards of crochet yarn (preferably a colorful one).
To begin your crochet toilet tissue cover project, you have to start by crocheting an over-sized skirt that will cover the bathroom tissue roll. To make the skirt, begin by making a simple single crochet knitting chain around the dolls waist, leaving plenty of space to pull the skirt over the doll’s head.
Secondly, continue repeating the same crochet chain pattern to cover the entire bathroom tissue roll. Depending on the size of the doll you are using, this might take you around 12 complete rows to cover the doll and the Scott bathroom tissue roll. Also, make sure to have your bathroom tissue roll near by and pause between rows to check your skirt measurements as you continue to add rows to the skirt.
When you have crochet enough rows to form the skirt to cover the bathroom roll. Insert the doll in the center of the bathroom tissue roll and pull the skirt over the tissue roll. At this point it is time to close the bottom of the doll’s skirt. You can do this in two different ways. The first way is by putting a ribbon through the last crochet row spaces and tying a bow in front of the dress. You will do this if you want to take off the skirt to wash it. Otherwise, you can crochet a weaving pattern to close off the skirt’s bottom. Cut the excess yarn and leave a 4-inch long tail. Weave the yarn into the skirt to hide it and you are done.
After you are done with your crochet toilet tissue cover, it is time to prepare your bathroom for guests. For our guest bathroom, I brought out our Christmas flowers, added a basket filled to the ream with comfy soft towels and found a special place for our doll. You can see it on the image above. What do you think of our creation? I had such an amazing time creating this crochet toilet tissue cover with my mom. Now every time anyone visit that bathroom, we can tell them the story of how we came up with our doll. The best part is that now I get to pass down this tradition to my daughter.
