Ever since I was young, I had all kinds of dolls to play with, from baby dolls to the typical Latin American artisan dolls. When my family and I, migrated to the US, I was already in my teens, but my sister was only six years old. I remember sitting in the living-room with her and my younger cousin to play with the “typical” dolls of the 80’s. However, I always wonder why these dolls never looked like any of us. Fast forward to today, my daughter (who loves to play with dolls since she was a baby), still plays with similar dolls to the once I used to play with. Until recently, I never knew that you could purchase toys inspired by our Latino culture. Did you know that MGA Entertainment recently launched a fashion doll line inspired by Latin cultures? If you didn’t, you are not alone. Last week, just in time for baby girl’s birthday, we received the Vi and Va doll line. Let me just say that for baby girl, it was love at first sight! Today, I want to introduce you to the Vi and Va fashion doll line.

Meet Viviana “Vi” and Valentina “Va”, pronounced like Viva! The doll’s themes and storytelling focuses on both family and culture, truly important in the Latino culture. The four main characters consist of Vi & Va, who are sisters and their best friends & cousins, Felicia & Roxxi. The four cousins are not just friends, they are also family! For them, every day is an adventure and a reason to celebrate the bonds of family and friendship.

As I stated before, for my daughter, meeting Vi, Va, Felicia & Roxxi was love at first sight. Some of the first things she noted were: “Mami, look muñecas (dolls)!”, “Mami, look at the guitar!” (referring to Vi’s guitar), “Mami, look she has a boombox to dance!” (referring to Roxxi’s boombox). One thing in particular that surprised me was that she also made a specific comment about Roxxi’s black hair, she stated “Mami, her hair looks just like mine!” This comment was it for me, these dolls are exactly what I have been looking for since I was that young child playing with my own dolls. Now, let me introduce you to each doll separately.

Meet Vi & Va, the Sisters!

Older sister, Vi is 16, spontaneous and easy going. She’s passionate about sharing her love of music, and she’s always ready to break out her guitar at family gatherings. She also loves creating new styles as a fashion designer.

Younger sister, Va is 15, is so neat and organized. She loves learning to cook from her mother and grandmothers. She’s already perfected several savory family recipes, like empanadas. She also loves trying out new hairstyles, and making herself look unique with ribbons and flowers in her hair.

Meet the Cousins, Roxxi & Felicia!

Felicia and Roxxi are Vi and Va’s cousins. Roxxi is 18 years old and a she is a dancer. Roxxi can be a bit of a klutz, but put on some music and she will suddenly become elegant and graceful with all kinds of dance moves, from ballet to hip-hop to salsa.

Felicia is 17 years old and an artist. Felicia sometimes finds it hard to focus, but then, out of nowhere, she’ll have a creative explosion and come up with a genius idea for her next artistic masterpiece.

Aren’t they just so much fun? I love their hair, it is so wild, just like mine! 🙂 I love their funky looking clothing, hey, it is called fashion for a reason. I love that their body shape is proportional to the doll and that their makeup is not exaggerated. The Vi and Va product line includes of several dolls and activity sets to help little girls play out each character’s storyline and enjoy her special talents.

The line also has a birthday party/quinceanera collection, where the family celebrates Vi turning 16 and Va turning 15 with a combined family party celebration. Girls can even dress up and join the fun with role play and styling accessories. The full assortment of “Vi and Va” fashion dolls is available at Target stores and on Target.com.
