What does your family mean to you? How do they inspire you to reach for you goals? Mi familia (my family), especially my kiddos, are the main the reason behind every decision I make, and ultimately, my motivation to continue to better myself on a daily basis. My goal is to follow in the teachings from the great women who have influenced my life. The sacrifices they made are the reason why we are here today. This is why, it is my objective to teach my kiddos the importance of family, working hard together to achieve our collective goals and to be there for each other no matter what.
Familia (Family) is Everything!
My mother and grandmother always told me that if you work hard and pursue your dreams, anything can be attainable. Our family matriarch (aka my abuelita or grandmother), not only put herself through school and achieved her goal of working as a school principal. But also, provided schooling for all of her eight kids, even though; she was a single mother. Her sacrifices and determination goes to show that no matter your life circumstances, your goals can be achieved.
My grandmother’s determination was imprinted so deeply in my mother that she also pursued a teaching degree and successfully reached her goal of becoming teaching professor at a local university. When my parents made the decision to move to the USA to provide my sister and I with a brighter future, my grandmother was the first person who supported their decision. With her help, support and many, many blessing; my parents began a new life, where we could all make our new goals and dreams come true. Although, my grandmother is no longer with us, her values and teachings are still being passed down to the next generation: education is the key to your future, giving up is not an option but above all, you must work hard to reach your goals.
Achieving your goal and dreams is the main message in Disney’s McFarland! Based on the true story of a 1987 cross country team from predominantly Mexican-American McFarland High School, in McFarland, California, the film stars Kevin Costner as Jim White, the school’s coach, who leads the team to win a state championship. The common themes from the movie are inspiration and family and how these two combine to motivate these unlikely athletes to a fantastic victory. The story is not only about a personal sports victory, but how a community was inspired to keep pursuing their dreams in a new country as well. This real story will be available for the first time on Blu-ray Comb Pack & Disney Movies Anywhere this June 2! My friend, Janella, inspires me! She was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer last year – and watching how strong and unwavering she has been through this whole battle is truly inspiring! I’m glad I can be there to help her however I can – and I pray for the best results possible for her!
I have a family member that has been loosing weight recently and she has inspired me to get healthy and loose weight. I want to be healthy and live a long life…not just for my kids (which of course is extremely important to me!) but also for myself. I want to look great in clothes, I want to be able to walk up a flight of stairs without being out of breath, and I want to be able to eat a cookie without people looking at me like, “Do you really NEED that cookie?”.
My daughter inspires me every day. She is the reason I went back to school to get my degree and pursue my dreams. My hope is that I will inspire her as she gets older.
