Five Simple and Cute Organization Ideas for Kid’s Rooms!
Organizing and cleaning a child’s room can be a pain and it’s mostly futile, especially if your child uses the room daily. If you are looking for cute and simple ways to get the room organized and cleaned (and keep it that way), here are a few helpful tips and ideas to get you started.
Think “child-sized”
When organizing a child’s room, you should use child-sized and kid-friendly storage devices. Things like heavy drawers or doors could make it difficult for your child to clean up after himself, so make the furniture and storage easy for your kids. One great tip is to take the drawers out of a dresser you already own and place wheels on the bottoms so that they can roll under the bed easily. This brings the storage solution to your child’s scale.
Get crafty with craft supplies
Have a ton of craft supplies lying about? Get them to put up neatly so they’re easier to find. One great tip to store them is by using an old dish-drainer. Place markers and scissors in the utensil holder and books, papers, and larger items in the bin area. For more craft storage, try hanging bags on low-resting hooks. Label each bag with “Crayons” or “Felt pieces” to store loose items that you can’t store elsewhere. Place the hooks on a door or on a wall behind a door to keep them out of the way. Another way to store loose writing utensils and colors is to secure old tin cans to the wall and have kids fill them with pencils, markers, and other writing apparatus.
Make a color-coded system
Don’t just toss toys in a toy box or bucket- that leads to messes. Instead, ask your child to sort toys into color-coded boxes for better organization. For example, they can reach in a large toy box and pull out their blue shoe box or blue storage bin and they know blocks go in there. The purple box is for dinosaurs, the yellow box is for dolls clothes, and so on until all toys have a place that neatly stores them. If they aren’t good with colors, yet, place pictures of the item that goes in the box on the front of the box.
Teddy Bear baskets
Instead of those old nets that hang on the wall from the ceiling, purchase a few planter baskets and secure them to the wall. Again, make sure they are low enough for your child to reach. This will encourage them to place the stuffies in the baskets, but it will also make finding the perfect bedtime buddy that much easier for the both of you.
Bath toys
Don’t forget the bathroom! This one is super simple and inexpensive. Simply buy a plastic food strainer form the Dollar Tree and have kids place their bath toys in it after bath time. This keeps them from sitting in standing water and getting gross. If you don’t want a strainer in your tub, you could always buy a plastic beach pail, poke holes in it, have kids fill it with their toys, and then hang it from the shower head so it is out of the way.
