Museum of Discovery and Science

South Florida living is indicative of variety of outside activities, that is not always as easy as it seems. During the Summer month we know that if it is not raining, it is too hot to be out and about. Therefore we tend to look for places were we can take the kids, where they can have fun and learn. One of these places is the Museum of Discovery and Science. I remember going to this museum for the first time many, many moons ago! 🙂 Although that was a long time ago, my kiddos have never been to the museum of discovery and science, this past Saturday we had the opportunity to explore and interact with the exhibit in the museum.

Museum of Discovery and Science Living Nature Collage

It should be an indicative that you will have fun as soon as you step into the courtyard, where a “Great Gravity Clock” greets the museum goers. The museum offers several exhibits: where your kids can explore, jump, touch and experiences different eras of our planet and beyond! As you step into the exhibit building you will experience the largest living Atlantic coral reef in captivity. The first floor houses many aquariums and terrariums were you will see the largest lobster you have ever seen! You will also get to see many different size of fish, tarantulas, scorpions, snakes, but the best part is the family of river otters. The kids favorite area was the Discovery center, where they got to build the walls of a building, create huge bubbles and baby got to ride a tractor. The boys loved to climb the play tree and baby got a kick out of the orange tree and the toddler area.

Prehistoric Collage

The second floor houses many more hands on exhibits, my favorite excibit was the prehistoric fossils area where we got to see the replica of a T-Rex skull, how cool is that! The kids favorite exhibits here where the flight simulators and the human hurricane station, yes they became human hurricanes, of course they had a belt on, safety first! The Tony Hawk rad science exhibit is not to be missed, we got to see The Back to the Future hoover board! The kids got to experience skate boarding at the race your skate board ramp, fun times! The next stop was back at the first floor exhibit area where we got to be face to face with a saber-toothed cat, walked under a 12-foot-tall Imperial Mammoth and be eaten by a life-size megalodon shark. 🙂

Museum of Discovery and Science Collage

Although we did not get to experience the the IMAX theater, the Museum of Discovery and Science houses a full size IMAX theater which features a 60-ft. x 80-ft. screen and a 15,000-watt digital sound system that delivers six discrete channels of clear sound through 42 speakers. The IMAXâ„¢ projector’s 15,000-watt Xenon bulb projects images of unsurpassed brilliance and clarity onto the five-story-high screen. The steeply sloped cinema seats bring the audience closer to the screen, so that the size of the image dominates your peripheral vision.

Summer Savings Pass

Museum of Discovery and Science admission is as follows: adults pay $14.00, children ages 2-12 pay $12.00, and seniors pay $13.00. Right now you can purchase the Summer Savings pass which retails for $55 for adults and $45 for children and visit Lion Country Safari, Miami Seaquarium, Museum of Discovery and Science and Zoo Miami all summer long.
