When The Game Stands Tall hits theaters August 22, 2014. Our good friend Marta, who is also the newest member to the Miami Mommy Savings team, had the opportunity to attend a screening of the movie and this is what she has to say about it…
When I was asked to go watch a movie at a screening and do a review, I was excited. When I found out it was a movie about football, I wasn’t too excited anymore, but I was wrong, very wrong. When The Game Stands Tall is not just another football movie, it is more than that. Sacrifice, commitment and teamwork are what this movie is all about. The movie is based on a true story and it centers on Bob Ladouceur, the football coach who led the De La Salle High School Spartans, a high school from Concord, California, to 151 straight victories over 12 years. The movie is not just about the winning streak, it is about how the coach helps the players connect with one another, by creating a special bond or brotherhood between the team members.
Like they say, there is no “I” in TEAM, it’s important to remember that, everybody has to work together, and everybody does their part. When they do not work together, it shows in the team’s performance and in their personal lives. The coach shows them, even though they win and win a lot, winning isn’t everything. What is important is how they got to be champions— as a team. The movie has its sad parts, a tragedy, but in the end, I call this movie a feel good movie. I strongly recommend coaches taking their teams to see this movie, show their players the importance of teamwork, the importance of family. Great acting by familiar faces, Jim Caviezal(Person of Interest), Michael Chiklis(The Shield) and Laura Dern(Jurassic Park). Be a team player and go see it! When The Game Stands Tall is rated PG and comes out in theaters on August 22.
