Guardians of The Galaxy Movie Review! #GuardiansOfTheGalaxy
Wow! This movie was an unexpected pleasure. When Marvel first announced “The Guardians of the Galaxy” I was hesitant about the movie since these are not the top line up of Marvel heroes. I believe this worked to the studios advantage since the fans expectancies are not as high as a Captain America, Iron Man or Thor movie where the characters are so well known and defined.
This is a superhero team that is about the team, not the individuals as opposed to the Avengers. They are a band of selfish losers (as Star Lord calls them) because they all have lost something. The movie is the story of how this band of galactic criminals come together to become the Guardians of the Galaxy.
The story revolves around Peter Quill aka Star Lord who is abducted by aliens as a child in the 80’s and is then raised by ravagers/space pirates. He is a mix of Indiana Jones / Han Solo / Jack Sparrow and has no super powers. What makes him fun is that he is always making 80’s references and that he is all about street smarts and wits. Maybe his best scene is at the beginning of the film. He comes down from his spaceship looking like a big bad-ass. Then he reaches under his coat and turns his 80’s cassette player and begins dancing along to the music. Then it appears “The Guardians of the Galaxy” on the screen. By that point you know whether you will like the movie or not.
The other members of the guardians are Drax, Groot, Gamora and Rocket Racoon. Drax is a the hateful vengeance type. He is driven by his desire to avenge his family’s death under Ronan’s hand. Gamora is the adopted daughter of big Thanos, the biggest villan in the galaxy. As a child her parents were murdered and her planet destroyed in front of her by Thanos. Her motivation is to prevent Ronan from destroying the planet Xandar. Groot is the plant like creature who can only say “I am Groot”. He is the big muscle in the team. His motivation is money. Last but definitely not least is my favorite characters Rocket Raccoon.
Rocket is the master planer. He can make a plan to achieve the impossible, is adorable with an attitude, steals every scene he is in, is the one who actually saves the day and is the one who actually knows how to get things done. On top of these he is constantly creating gadgets and weapons.
The plot is simple enough to follow. Quill gets his hands on the purple Infinity stone and tries to sell it. When they lose the stone and discover that the power of the stone is going to be used to destroy planet Xandar, they must put their personal motivations aside and join forces to save the galaxy.
There are a lot of little things for the Marvel Fans. Beginning with the big one Thanos! Yes, he appears in the movie which can lead to a lot of speculation of the direction Marvel is going. Another is the presence of the Nova Corps but no Nova the superhero. Maybe they will create him with the power of the purple stone? Who knows? I can only guess but it would be a great movie to see. Also is the appearance of the galactic psychic dog Cosmo. Only those who know the comics will get that one.
Over all we loved the movie. I believe is one of the best Marvel movies so far. In my opinion is better than The Avengers. For more information about Guardians of The Galaxy, like them on Facebook: facebook.com/GuardiansoftheGalaxy and follow them on Twitter: twitter.com/Guardians.
