How is your Thanksgiving day coming along? Ours has been pretty amazing thus far! We woke up early this morning, had breakfast with the kids, did some crafts, and then began the process of cooking our ever first turkey at home. Usually we have Thanksgiving at the in-laws, however, this year we decided to stay home and enjoy Thanksgiving at our home.
Are you familiar with the Jennie-O OVEN READY Whole Turkey? If you haven’t seen it, you are in for a treat. The Jennie-O OVEN READY Whole Turkey is a turkey that you can cook without defrosting, yup that’s correct, plus it comes pre-seasoned, in a fool-proof cooking bag, and a side of delicious home made gravy packet, it does not get any better than that. All you have to do is preheat your oven to 375 °F, remove the frozen turkey from white outer packaging, place your Jennie-O OVEN READY Whole Turkey in a roasting pan with at least 2″ high sides directly from your freezer (no thawing needed), place in your oven, cook according to the packing instructions, serve and enjoy!
here are a few more directions to follow:
- Do not remove turkey from FOOL PROOF. cooking bag.
- Note – Do not increase oven temperature, cooking bag may melt at higher temperatures.
- Pull bag up and away from turkey, to release vacuum.
- Place pan in oven, allowing room for bag to expand without touching the oven racks or walls.
- Roast the turkey until a meat thermometer inserted into the center of the breast reaches 170°F.
- Note – Meat temperature increases rapidly during last hour of cooking.
- Let turkey rest 15 minutes, cut open top of oven bag.
- Watch out for hot steam and juices.
- Heat gravy as directed on pouch
So, what were the results? After almost 4 hours in our oven, we ended up with a delicious Turkey, so tender it falls off the bone. YUM, we paired our turkey with mashed potatoes, mac & cheese and maduro (sweet plantains), after all we love our Latin food. 🙂 Everyone couldn’t get enough of the tender & well spiced turkey and we all repeated. Now, it is time to learn to prepare some new recipes with our left overs. 🙂
Happy Thanksgiving everyone!
