If you are like us and considered yourself a budget-conscious traveler, you know that the internet has made it possible to find amazing deals on amazing destinations all over the world. How to Save Money for Your Next Getaway. Read more at CleverlyMe.com

Okay, so let me start by saying this. I am not stating that you have to skimp on your family vacations, I am just stating that there are many tricks you can do to save the extra money needed before, during, and after your desired vacation getaway. What better way to enjoy your destination than without worrying about adding its cost to your monthly expenses. So, here it is, let’s learn How to Save Money for Your Next Getaway.

  1. To begin with, make your Travel Decisions. Decide what, when, how, and where you and your family will be going. By determining what, when, how, and where you will be traveling, you can set a Budget for your vacation destination. Remember, your budget should include all your costs, including airfare, lodging, car rental, attractions, meals and so on. By figuring out your total budget, you can divide the cost by the number of months before you leave. So, if you need a total of $2000 for your vacation and you have 10 months to go, you know that you need to save an extra $200 a month to make your vacation getaway a reality.
  2. Next, Save your Money. The first step in getting the savings process started is by opening a dedicated vacation savings account, here you can set up an automated monthly payment and let the savings add up. To increase your monthly vacation savings, you can also reduce your grocery bill by buying in bulk, shopping at your local farmers market, by using paper coupons or by scanning your receipts and using savings apps. Also take a look at what you are purchasing on a weekly basis and rework your grocery shopping list, in no time you will be adding more money to your vacation savings account.
  3. Next, find the deals. Now that you have decided on the destination details and you have your vacation money set aside. It is time to maximize your vacation money and go on an amazing trip. Start by using your favorite search engine to find things to do in and around your getaway destination. Perhaps finding free museum days or discounts to the local amusement parks, gas stations, hotels, and even restaurants. Who knows? Maybe you will even come under budget and be able to visit more places or eat at that special restaurant you thought was out of the question. 🙂

I pack travel snacks that are non messy for the road trip to and from. I think most people forget the coming back trip and it costs them a lot more money in stops every where.

I save money by bundling vacation purchases like hotel and airfare. I usually don’t travel often enough to take advantage of loyalty programs, but that’s something that I’m hoping will change in the future! I think loyalty programs can be a good way to find out about sales and promotions that will save money.

I save money by taking advantage of any frequent flyer programs I can. Lately I’ve been racking up Southwest miles by going out to dinner. Pretty sweet!

We take advantage of the travel websites that let you book a package deal. I am not sure if it is actually cheaper than going to all of the places individually and booking, but it seems like it probably is.

  21. EIG says

    September 29, 2016 at 4:41 pm

I usually take public transportation and stock up on drinks and snacks at gas stations or grocery stores.

  22. Denise C says

We really don’t save a lot of money on our vacations. We tend to plan at the last minute and have to pay whatever they’re asking. The only thing that saves us is the points we redeem that we’ve accumulated from using our credit cards.

  23. Tammy Woodall says

    September 30, 2016 at 7:51 pm

I save money by doing as much research as possible as well as looking at reviews of the places I’m considering staying at. Then I look for discounts, and reward programs to see what will be the best deal for the money.

  24. Russell Levinson says

    September 30, 2016 at 11:41 pm

I save by walking and biking instead of taxis.

  25. Kenya F says

I subscribe to so many sites and hotels to catch the deals. I also was able to catch a few error fares. Those are always awesome. I do tons of research and try to go to certain places during low season.

I haven’t found many ways to save on vacations, actually. The best way we’ve found is booking a hotel with a mini kitchen, so that we can save on those expensive meals out!

  27. Lee-Ann says

    October 5, 2016 at 12:40 am

I slowly pay off my vacations after I book them in advance. It makes it a lot more manageable and then there aren’t huge bills right at the end.

  28. ILona B. says

I watch for deals all the time! I love to save my points to help offset a portion of my stay. I also make the kids save their money as well for souvenirs.

To save money on my travels, I plan ahead and look carefully for deals. As always, follow the deals, not the destination.
