The last few days have been pretty interesting around here, to say the least! 🙂 As you may know, we live in sunny Miami. However, with Matthew churning off the Florida coast, sunny South Florida has turned into a bunker-down-stay-in-your-home kinda city. For the last 24-48 hours, all we have done is get ready for this storm to make land somewhere on the east coast of our state. From getting our home ready to buying a few Hurricane necessities, it has been non-stop. Anyways, today I want to give you a sneak peek into how we get Hurricane Ready: The Cleverly Way!
Hurricane Ready: The Cleverly Way!
Hurricane readiness is no joke to us, having lived in the South Florida area since before I was a teen, we have gone through many tropical and hurricanes systems. So, like I mentioned before, the last 24-48 hours we have been a non-stop preparedness mode. From securing our property, such as putting up the shutters and clearing the areas around our home, filling up the car, getting hurricane non-perishable essentials, such as batteries and water, to locating insurance documents. Of course, once all this is done it is time to get Hurricane Ready: The Cleverly Way! And if you are asking why the cleverly way? Well, the answer is simple, it is because it is our way of getting ready for a hurricane. I don’t know about you, but waiting for a hurricane is kinda boring. Therefore, after I make sure that we have gone through our Hurricane checklist, I cook to pass the time. Yes, you read that correctly. I like to make my favorite meals for us to enjoy it while we wait. And what do I make?
Well, I love to make my Easy Cheese-Stuffed Shells, a batch of Nicaraguan gallo pinto (I will share that recipe in a later post), some delicious chicken wings, super yummy spare ribs, my delicious Cheesecake Cookie Bars, pre-cooked some burger (cause you have to be ready for everything), maybe a cake for the hurricane after party and if we have time, anything else that comes to mind. I know that I am not the only one that cooks ahead of a hurricane since my Facebook feed is filled with recipes from my South Florida friends. Do you cook ahead of a hurricane? If so, what do you prepare? Let us know by dropping us a note in the comment section below.
Oh! and by the way, while shopping for some of our Hurricane non-perishable essentials, I picked up some of these ReynoldsTM Disposable Heat & Eat Containers. They are the perfect container for storing your leftovers! These containers are a great alternative to plastic, they are made with plant fibers and they are perfect for the microwave! Pretty neat right? And if that wasn’t enough, you don’t even need to clean your ReynoldsTM Disposable Heat & Eat containers. Just put your leftovers in these containers and your lunch is ready for you the next day!
Check these out for yourself by picking up a pack of ReynoldsTM Disposable Heat & Eat Containers at your local Walmart in the food storage aisle.
All that yummy food keeps me smiling in the face of hurricane preparations! On my way to get my coupons!
I like those heat and eat containers Will have to look for them.
