I was fortunate enough to attended the Monsters University world premiere this past Monday, June 17, you can read all about my experience at the tailgate party here. After all the festivities, my classmates and I saw Monsters University together with a couple of hundred invited guests, among the guest were many celebrities and respected media influencers. Today Monster University opens in theaters nationwide and now the entire world will get to see how Mike and Sulley develop their amazing friendship, we all know and love from Monsters, Inc.
Monsters University which is the prequel to Monsters, Inc. chronicles how Mike and Sulley’s friendship was developed through their first semester in Monsters University. Monsters University features the voices of Billy Crystal, Steve Buscemi, John Goodman, Helen Mirren, John Krasinski, Beth Behrs, Jennifer Tilly and Sean Hayes.
Since Mike was young he knew he wanted to be a scarer. After going on a field trip to Monsters, Inc. with his Elementary school, he knew that if he wanted to be the best scarer in the entire world he had to enrolled at Monsters University (MU) to learn all the necessary skills to be that. As he becomes a young adult and heads to MU and meets Sulley, he knows he will have great competition on the way. Sulley is a born-scarer, he comes from a long line of class-A scarers and assumes that to be enrolled at MU means he could slack off and pass the time having fun.
Throughout their first semester Mike studies and applies himself to become that best scarer he can be, but due to their competitiveness both Sulley and Mike are kicked out of the prestigious scare program and are forced to joined forces with the OOZMA KAPPA (OK) fraternity. Both Sulley and Mike hope that by joining forces they are able to win the Scare Games, which means the fraternity who wins the games will be named the best scarer and gives them a chance to get back into scare school. The scare games are not as easy as Mike thinks it will be and this is where we see how Mike, Sulley and the OK fraternity have to learn to rely on each others strengths to overcome their differences.
Monsters University show us that no matter what your dreams are you should pursue them full steam ahead and that friends come in all shapes and sizes. This movie is great for the entire family and the message of chasing your dreams resonates a lot with me as a mom of young children. Once again Disney and Pixar have provide us with a great movie for the ages. Take your family to see Monsters University this weekend and enjoy it.
