Everyday that passes by it amazes me how big my baby girl is getting, with all these changes have come a few parenting challenge adventures! If you have been following the last few month, I have been telling you about our new parenting adventure, you can read about them here and here. This month I am going to explore our new phase TANTRUM! Oh, yes! In the last few month our compliant baby turned into a screaming I want it my way little girl.
As a parent of two older boys, I have learned that is each child has individual needs, I have also learned that what works for one child might not work for another. A few years before my daughter was born, I met a couple who said that a “Time out” chair worked wonders for their boys, as a matter of fact when they were done with it, they offered it to us (see the left side of the picture above). For the past few month, my very compliant daughter has turn into a screaming mess every time she wants something. The moment these kind of tantrums started happening, I knew it was time to implement a corrective behavior plan.
- First off, find out what is triggering the tantrums? It seems like whenever the boys are around she wants the exact same things they have/or are playing with, the key here is to create a diversion. Also, very important in my book: keep her rested, if she it too tired or missed her nap, she will be too tired and tantrums will follow.
- Secondly, separate and conquer: a two-minute trip to the time out chair will come in handy once tantrums are in full swing.
- Lastly, praise her: I have learned: positive praise will get me further, she will be happy that she did something good and NO tantrums!
