It is that time of the year again when we decorate our homes, plan our entire holiday itinerary and shop for all those wonderful gifts for the entire family, friends and neighbors. Yes, all that planning, decorating and shopping can be quite gratifying; however, for some of us it can be a stressful time both physically and emotionally. To keep yourself on track and meeting your financial resolutions from last year, it is important to evaluate where you stand and focus on keeping your financial goals on track. Today, I want to share with you a few tips to stay financially healthy through the holiday season.

A few years ago, my husband and I decided that in order to achieve piece of mind, our number one priority was to stay away from debt. This meant that all purchases can only be done when we have the cash to pay for them, so no more financing, no more relying on our credit cards. Oh and this doesn’t mean that we don’t have credit, on the contrary, we do and we protect it. Our, first step was to devised a yearly plan to stay financially healthy throughout the year and another specific play for the holiday season. So, my first tip for you is to develop a plan for your specific situation. Take into consideration how much you want to spent on food, gifts, travel, decor and on yourself and then set limits on those areas. This way you will stay accountable and there will be no surprise comes next year.

Part of staying financially healthy is by keeping yourself from feeling stress out. Yes, the holiday season can be a stressful time for everyone. Not only do we have to keep up with work and mommy duties, but we also have to keep up with the added commitments that come with the holiday season. This is why for my second tip, I recommend taking time and pamper yourself. This can be as simple as taking the time to read a book, sleeping in late, putting on lipstick, getting your nails done or watching a movie in the comfort of your bedroom. I love to shop at my local CVS/Pharmacy for everything I need to get this accomplish. To pamper myself, I pick up a few extra colorful lip glosses, fun nail polishes colors, perfume for me and cologne for the hubby. Easy and fun, right? CVS/Pharmacy makes it super easy for me to save money while I shop for all my pampering needs, plus they reward me through my loyalty card in the form of ExtraCare bucks and extra coupon savings that come via email or on the CVS/Pharmacy mobile app, thus helping me stay financially healthy through the year.

Another way to stay financially healthy during this season is to get creative with gift giving. If you are savvy in the DIY area, you can make homemade gifts or pick up personal items, household goods and gifts. Yes, even small gifts from your local CVS/Pharmacy and make gift baskets. You don’t have to break the bank to present your love ones with a very useful gift. After all, the holidays are about making lifetime memories and those are free. 🙂 For my third and final tip, I have to get a very practical. As you know, winter is cold and flu season and unfortunately, if you are sick you can get to work. So, prevent illness by washing your hands frequently, staying warm by dressing in layers, take your vitamins, eat well, stay active, drink plenty of water, get plenty of rest and take care of those colds as soon as they begin. There, these are my tips to stay financially healthy through the holiday season. How do you stay financially healthy through the year?
