Stress-Relief-and-Relaxation-Tips-Miami-Mommy-SavingsStress Relief and Relaxation Tips

My mom is the best sleeper in the world, well, at least in my opinion! 🙂 She is the type of person that can sleep with or without noise, in a comfortable bed or uncomfortable chair. As a child, I remember how upsetting it was that she could fall asleep on a dime and it will take me at least three times as longer to finally doze off. Fast forward to today, my husband says the same thing about me, I guess the apple doesn’t fall too far from the tree. Although as a child it was upsetting, now as an adult, the understanding of getting a good night’s sleep is essential to setting the tone for how your entire day will be. There are several steps and relaxation techniques you can take to help create a calming zone to emphasize the idea of winding down as evening approaches. For example, playing music or taking a warm bubble bath, if you are not a bubble bath kind of person, you can easily follow other techniques to help soothe your body and therefore have a restful night.

3-Easy-Tips-For-A-Better-Sleep-Miami-Mommy-Savings

Today, I want to share with you some Stress Relief and Relaxation Tips to help you accomplish a restful night’s sleep:

Step 1: Get into a sleep routine: The mission here is to get your body to sync with your body’s natural sleep-wake cycle. If your body gets used to going to bed and waking up at the same time everyday, you will feel more refresh and energized throughout the day. You can help your body to accomplish this by listening to soft music, lighting a candle, lying down and by taking deep breaths.

Step 2: Reserve your bed for sleep and intimacy: The mission here is to leave your worries, work related stress, and household management aside. If you leave your bed for sleep and intimacy, your body will get a cue that bed is for sleeping, therefore, increasing your natural sleep cycle.

Step 3: Dim the lights. We live in a hyper connected society, the mission here is to stay away from bright lights, decrease computer, tablet and phone usage just before bed time. Bright lights triggers your brain to think it is daylight out and therefore suppressing your body’s natural sleep cycle. Cue your body into stress relief and relaxation, some studies suggest that soaking in hot water before bed is a great way to have some time to yourself every day. Add candles, bubbles, and aromatherapy bath salts for even more relaxation. Just make sure to leave enough time before you get into bed so that your body has time to cool down.

As someone who suffers from semi-regular insomnia, I have discovered that essential oils are very helpful. I have created my own relaxation blend that I will use about an hour before my (reasonable) bedtime, and will even use it as a linen spray so that its effects (and pleasing smell!) can be achieved all night! Even just Lavender essential oil, on its own, is very effective and pleasing.

    exercise.

There are many supplements you can take about 30 minutes to an hour before bedtime to help you fall asleep and stay asleep. The one that is generally considered the most effective is Melatonin 3-5 mg. The mineral
Magnesium also helps with muscle relaxation. In addition there are herbal
supplements, but they can interact with prescriptions and have side effects.
Always check with you doctor, who needs to know that your having trouble
    sleeping.

I like to get as comfortable as possible. Then I start to slow my breathing down and as I do I listen to each breath. This helps me to relax and very soon I’m off to sleep. This is also a way to meditate and I use it quite often. Another thing I do if I’m especially stressed, is to tell myself to relax and I do. Both of these help me to get a better nights sleep.
