The Conners Are BACK!
Hey, hey, hey, have you heard that our favorite Conners are back? Yes, that’s right! Roseanne, Dan, Becky, Darlene, D.J, and aunt Jackie are back after a 21-year hiatus. So, get ready for tonight’s (10th) season premiere of “Roseanne” with brand-new, back-to-back episodes at 8:00 pm EST on ABC. The original 9-season series provided us with a front-seat into the lives of this blue-collar working family. Although more than twenty years have elapsed, the original formula hasn’t changed that much.
It’s All About the New Season!
During the first half-hour episode of the season premiere, Roseanne and Dan adjust to living under the same roof with Darlene and her two children, Harris and Mark, when Darlene loses her job. Meanwhile, Becky announces she is going to be a surrogate to make extra money; and Roseanne and Jackie are at odds with one another. What a way to set up the new season, right? But hey, the good news is that during the season premiere, we get to enjoy a second episode.
During the second half-hour episode, Darlene’s son, Mark, gets caught with a pocket knife after being bullied on the first day of his new school. Meanwhile, Becky invites Andrea over to meet the family and is nervous to bring her home. Oh, I cannot wait for all the humor and all the new character we will meet. But wait, did I mentioned that last December I got to visit the set and chatted with three of the original cast?
Exclusive Interview with
Sara Gilbert (Darlene), Lecy Goranson (Becky), and Michael Fishman (D.J) & Set visit!
So check it, now that you know all about the first two episodes of this brand new season, let me share with you all about our recent set visit and our exclusive interview with Sara Gilbert (Darlene), Lecy Goranson (Becky), and Michael Fishman (D.J).
As you know, it is been almost 21-years since the original run ended, but as you walk into the Roseanne set the one thing you notice is the many different familiar items we all remember from the Conner household and of course because all these years have elapsed, a few new ones have also made it to the new set.
Thanks Roseanne for stopping by for a quick photo!
As Sara Gilbert stated during our interview and as you can see from the images above, Dan is alive in season 10! Which as a fan, this is beyond cool. As Michael Fishman told us and without giving anything away from this new season “it’s much closer probably to the core of the show.”
What do we need to know about this new season? First of all, all the Conner kids have grown up! Lecy’s character, Becky, is a widow and she is a waitress. As far as Sara’s character goes, Darlene is divorce and she is a mom to two kids. And finally D.J, the baby of the Conner family is married and has one child. If you have been a fan of the show since the beginning, don’t worry, you won’t miss anything from the last 20-years. As Michael Fishman stated, “I think the writers did a really good job of kind of explaining where we are now and how it kind of fits in the transition.”
Many of us grew up with the Conner kids, so how was it for the Conner kids coming back to the set? For Lecy (Becky), “it really feels like a family. It feels like going home. That’s how I felt here, especially when I see these faces and I hear Roseanne’s voice piercing through the set.”
If you are asking yourself, why go back to the show after almost 21-years? Well, this is what Michael Fishman has to say about that “we have Sara largely to thank for that. I think a big part of this kind of initiated with what John and Sara did on the talk, and then Sara really has taken the ball and run with this and brought everybody together. She’s kind of modest in that standpoint, but she really has been a very pivotal part of that. And I think we’re all really thankful that we got this opportunity to kinda all be together again.”
In a recent interview, Roseanne mentioned that she always wanted to do a 10th season. Now that Sara Gilbert is an executive producer of this season, it got us wondering why she thought this year was the perfect time to bring the Conners back? She has this to say “I think in one respect it was an incredible time to do it because I felt like our country is so divided. And I feel like this is a working-class family that can have varying political views even within the family but still love each other. And I thought what a great way to try to help unite people, have people listen to each other. You know, I strongly believe that we can disagree without being so divided. So, I’m hoping that we can help in that way.
Last but not least, as Michael (D.J) mentioned during our interview, many of the original cast and crew are back this season and it got us wondering if we will see the famous chicken shirt many of the cast wore in the original run. Michael did say that we will see it out of the gate in the first episode. So don’t miss it tonight! And if you are a fan of the chicken shirt, Lecy (Becky) mentioned that you can get one online, so now you know where to get one. 🙂
Thanks to Sara Gilbert (Darlene), Lecy Goranson (Becky), and Michael Fishman (D.J) for taking the time to chat with us and welcoming us to the Conner house. Remember to tune in tonight and every Tuesday at 8:00 PM EST on ABC to catch all new episodes of Roseanne.
