Thor: The Dark World is the latest installment on the Marvel Cinematic Universe. This movie has the same feel as Avengers so if you liked one you will like the other. I honestly loved the movie because it gave me what the previous one did not, action and lots of it. The first Thor seemed too romantic and mellow to me. It did a great job at introducing the characters but lacked the action expected on a superhero movie. The addition of new director Alan Taylor (Game of Thrones) made a perfect fit even though this movie is more Sci-Fi than Fantasy. Another aspect that I liked was that there are no significant plot holes in the story and that it is leading to somewhere else. This movie introduces many unresolved elements that give way to future movies.
There is the hint of the love triangle of Thor, Jane and Sif, also a very shadowy plot revolving Loki that I do not want to spoil and the best extra scene since the first Iron Man when Nick Fury appears to Stark and announces the Avengers.
I must admit that I came out of the theater screaming in excitement over the extra scene. It is the corniest and most out of place scene in Marvel movie history, but it makes you ponder, and pondering is what it is all about. So here is a tease for all those comic book fans, there are five… enough said.
Throughout the movie the Asgardians are presented more like aliens than gods. This trend began from the first Thor and is reinforced on this one. This time around we see many asgardian high tech devices that take away the Asgardian mysticism and replace it with Sci-Fi. Understandibly this may be a big turn off for the hardcore fans of the Nordic God.
One word of caution: It is a great movie but think twice about bringing the little ones due to intense sci-fi action.
