With the new year just around the corner, many of us are planning our new year’s resolutions goals. Yes many of us are sceptical of making new year’s resolutions and with good reason, the majority of us will not follow through with them. This is the reason why I rather call resolutions, goals. If you are like me, one of these new year’s goals is to lead a healthier lifestyle or even to loose some of those extra pounds we gained during the holiday season. With three little ones at home, my life is pretty hectic as it is. Therefore, to make my new year’s goals a reality, I have to put a little more effort or planning into my plan of action. By following some of the following tips, we can help each other stay on the right path to finding your healthy in the new year.
3 Tips to Find Your Healthy in the New Year
Let’s begin by finding our motivation and making a plan. If you are reading this is because you are pretty motivated to achieve your goals. Whether you want to fit better in your clothes, find more energy to keep up with your kids or just want your overall health to be better, as long as you pinpoint your reason behind your goal(s), then you can use that to keep yourself motivated. Taking on a new lifestyle takes planning and patience. Once you identify your goal(s) begin by outlining the changes you want to achieve, making an implementation schedule and your specific time frame are key. Then, begin by identifying your actionable or SMART steps (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic, and Time-bound).
Once you found your motivation and made a plan, it is time to put your plan into action. If your goal is to lose weight, begin by tracking what you eat and taking on small changes. For example, I am making an effort to eat breakfast on a daily basis. Yes, something as simple as a smoothie can help me feel more energized throughout the day and help me avoid overeating during meal times. Since I have to drop off kids in the morning, I just make my smoothie in my handy mason jar and grab a delicious fruit to take to go. Another way to help keep me on track is by keeping nutritious snacks handy to eat between meals. Low-fat bars, grains like granola and nuts help me accomplish this, so No more excuses. 🙂
Last but not least, let’s move and take it slow. Yes, we need to exercise at least a few times a week. If it is more energy you are looking for, start by walking a few minutes a day and slowly increasing your walking time. Now, remember to take it slow. Changing your lifestyle takes time, so don’t try to do everything at once. If you want to make permanent changes, it will take determination. And if you get sidetrack, don’t worry, try and try again. We are all humans, so learn from your experience and move on.
