Have you ever wonder how it would be to go on a safari adventure? We truly LOVE to travel and experience NEW adventures, most of all we love to provide the kids with as many opportunity to learn about nature. Just yesterday we had the opportunity to go on a safari drive, yup we did, but don’t worry we didn’t have to take a plane over to Africa. We took an hour and a half drive up north to World Famous Lion Country Safari located in Loxahatchee, Florida. Loxahatchee, Florida is approximately 20 miles west of downtown West Palm Beach. Lion Country Safari, opened in 1967. Today it is home to more than 900 animals, most notable species at the park are lions, white rhinos, chimpanzees, zebras, and giraffes.

As you arrive at the gate you will receive an informative CD, which describes and guides you on which animals you should be seeing at each sections of the drive through part of Lion Country Safari. It took us about one and half hour to tour the drive through section of the park. Most impressive part of the drive through was our close encounter with a very curious ostrich, it actually pecked at our windshield, a unique experience for both the kids and for daddy. 🙂

Once we finished the drive through section, we headed to the second part of Lion Country Safari. The walk-through area of the park, has been even more adventure opportunity. The park offers a picnic areas, restaurant and gift shops. Additionally, nature wall, mini-golf, ferris wheel, water sprayground, petting zoo, merry-go-round, boat rides, aviaries, bird, reptile, alligator, squirrel monkey exhibits, giraffe feeding and animal presentations. So much to see and do at the park, Lion Country advices to allow about three hours to truly experience the walk-through area. The kiddos enjoyed feeding the gentle giraffes, they are truly amazing animals, they giggle and laughed as the giraffes reached to get their romaine lettuce treats. I was so happy to learned that all Lion Country Safari rides are included with admission, kids LOVED the merry-g0-around. Although the park has a ferris wheel, water areas and boat rides, we were not able to ride them do to thunder alert, typical South Florida Summer weather. Thankfully the park provides other fun activities and that is what we did, we headed to the petting zoo and the kids were able to go to the aviary to feed the birds, as well as to play with the goats and llamas. The kids had a great time feeding the fish and learning more about spider monkey and the sloth.

Lion Country Safari offers campground facilities, which include: full hook-up, shady pull-through sites with concrete patio, and picnic tables, as well as Kamping Kabins and tent sites. Although we didn’t get to experience this part of Lion Country Safari, sounds like this would be a great way to go camping with the kids, it is said that you can hear the lion’s roar in the morning, wouldn’t that be an amazing experience? Lion Country Safari also offers school and scouts events as well as birthday party celebrations.

Summer Savings Pass

Lion Country Safari admission is as follows: regular ages 10-64 pay $61.00, children ages 3-9 pay $50.00, Senior ages 65 + pay $55.00.
